US Tax Payers – Financing Manchester United?

// September 18th, 2008 // Uncategorized

So the photo shop skills are somewhat lacking but you get the point. The US Treasury’s recent purchase of AIG, who happen to be Manchester United’s main sponsor, means that in a way, all US tax payers are financing this team. This will be particularly galling for Man City fans, but at least they can be happy in the knowledge that a small percentage of $4 gas is going into the city coffers via new owners Abu Dhabi group. It really has become a global game!

    Newcastle’s sponsor Northern Rock (a UK bank) were bailed out by the UK tax payers and they have been struggling ever since, languishing at the tail end of the Premiership with the usual terrace taunt from opposing fans being “you’re going down with your sponsor”

    Now AIG get bailed out by the Fed….we can but hope!!

    So now American owner and billionaire Malcolm Glazer is getting paid for shirt sponsorship by the US taxpers. Talk about corporate welfare–but at least it’s a fellow American that we are paying!
